dose of fish oil per day?

But since I do eat fish, i feel I need to compensate with fish oil as im lacking in omega 3, acids. I fish 1000mg (180mg EPA, 120mg DHA) oil and he said to take 2 capsules 3 times a day .. which is equivalent to 6000mg per day? It seems that many good in my experience .. Some people recommend others while lower dose to say thats fine, I guess the only way to know is whether I I feel bad dose directed or not .. I read 2-3g is fine.
